Printer driver was not installed. access is denied server 2003
In our current enviornment we have Windows XP bit workstations, and Windows bit print server. When standard users attempt to add a network printer they get access denied which I believe is linked to them trying to install the print driver. When we login as a admin then add the printer there is no access denied. When the user logs back in they can connect with no problem at all.
Is there a way to grant users the right to add their own network printers? In Windows Server domain, you can disable this policy to achieve your goal:. For a computer to print to a network printer, the driver for that network printer must be installed on the local computer. This security setting determines who is allowed to install a printer driver as part of adding a network printer.
If this setting is enabled, only Administrators and Power Users can install a printer driver as part of adding a network printer. I thought it might be the latest Windows Updates so uninstalled all of them but that has not helped. After days of troubleshooting without finding any solution i was able to solve the issue with a veeam restore of the vm. We had to add a few new printers but now everything is working agian.
I couldn't find the solution and for me this procedure was more time efficient. Not very satisfactory - but it works. We can enable SetupAPI log first, then install printer again, When the problem happened, are there any event logs in below location on session host wr2?
I'm not sure about anyone else but on my server the network printers still worked for clients that had them installed. They could be added through the Add print wizard as they were showing in AD. I don't know how many hours we spent trying to fix this issue before coming upon the Deny permission issue. Removing it fixed the issue straightaway. While I have this issue with these error codes, i don't appear to have any permissions set to deny on those directories. Server Can we deploy print server and network printer at member server?

II ran a command to undo the fix, added the printer, and the then reapplied it. HI TJCooper If I go to the device manager, the printer is listed as a USB printer that isn't running correctly as there's no driver.
If I choose to 'update driver' from the device manager, it successfully downloads the driver same driver as listed in Windows Update and when trying to install the driver it comes back with an error of 'Access Denied'.
As previously mentioned this occurs with both laptops. In both cases I was logged in as an administrator account but not 'the' administrator account.
I have enabled the administator account and tried installing through this but it made no difference. I also have tried removing and reinstalling the device without success. The Windows 7 compatibility site stated that the printer is compatible with Windows 7 bit edition. This thread is locked.
